Maia

Maia 2018

By Jen Clement Kelley

We adopted Maia in 2015 from an animal shelter.  She
had been rescued from a backyard breeder.
At the time we found her, she was in the process of healing from the
abuse she’d suffered.  She was full of love and life despite her internal
and external wounds.  We took her home as
soon as she was able to leave, and our love story continued for four
years.  Our favorite pastime was taking
walks in the woods or in parks together – her favorite trails were in the
Shenandoah Mountains and also the Mt. Vernon Trail. Amazing places.

She left us in December 2019 after a quick but painful
fight with cancer at the much too young age of 5 1/2.  We are still heartbroken,
but she left us with so many wonderful memories.  Her kindness and gentle
spirit have left an indelible mark on us and on all who met her.

The Maia’s Corner section of our website is dedicated to her memory and spirit and love of the forest and outdoors.
